Chairman’s Message: Our Industry Starts with Engagement

Last week, we wrapped up the NASGW Wholesaler Summit in Nashville, and I have to say it was time well spent. Bringing together many of our wholesale members gave us a valuable space to hear how things are going, learn about ways we can implement AI into our businesses and focus on the shared challenges we’re all facing.
That’s what makes NASGW such a valuable platform. It’s not just a trade group; it’s an association built specifically around the two-step distribution model. It exists to serve your needs, whether you're selling through wholesale channels or supporting them. But the effectiveness of NASGW depends entirely on one thing: engagement.
The more we participate in this organization, the more we all get out of it. I’ve seen it firsthand. Whether you’re attending the Summit, taking advantage of the tools, we’ve built like SCOPE or VAULT, or simply staying in touch with your fellow members, your involvement strengthens the entire supply chain.
When wholesalers engage, they shape the programs and tools that are created for their business. When manufacturers and reps stay involved, they better understand the needs of their distribution partners and can plan accordingly. The communication flows more smoothly, the data becomes more reliable, and the results speak for themselves.
But if we’re not plugged in, if we’re sitting on the sidelines, then we’re missing out on opportunities to improve how we all do business.
We all know how fast things move today. Product cycles are tighter, data is everywhere (and not always consistent), and customer expectations aren’t slowing down. That’s why NASGW has focused its energy on creating real, usable tools, not just for show, but for solving problems.
SCOPE helps wholesalers and manufacturers understand what’s moving, where, and when. VAULT will soon help reduce redundancies and clean up product data across the board. These tools will only getting stronger, and your input plays a major role in shaping how they grow.
Last week’s Summit conversations were full of great insights, ideas on improving communication, reducing friction, and getting more out of the resources NASGW offers. That kind of honest dialogue is exactly what we need more of.
The NASGW Expo in Grapevine, Texas is only a few weeks away, and now is the time to get your meetings scheduled, your plans locked in, and your teams aligned.
The Expo is where deals happen, relationships are built, and plans take shape. It’s not about gimmicks or massive crowds, it’s focused, efficient, and built for business.
The shooting sports industry works best when we work together. That means distributors, manufacturers, and reps all staying connected, aligned, and engaged through NASGW. It’s your association and it will only ever be as strong as the effort we put into it.
Whether you’ve been involved for years or you’re just starting to explore what NASGW has to offer, I encourage you to stay engaged, use the tools, join the conversations, and show up to the events. The more we connect, the better we all become.
I’m looking forward to seeing many of you in Grapevine. Let’s keep the momentum going.
Until next time,
Bill Sumner
