The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) has had a busy few months, filing and advancing several significant legal challenges aimed at defending the rights of lawful gun owners across the nation. From contesting new state-level restrictions in California to questioning the constitutionality of long-standing federal regulations, SAF continues to play a leading role in shaping the national conversation around firearm policy and individual rights. In addition to its courtroom efforts, SAF also recognized one of the industry’s most influential advocates at this year’s Gun Rights Policy Conference. Below is a summary of the organization’s most recent legal actions and updates.

SAF Files Lawsuit Challenging California Glock Ban

In response to California Gov. Gavin Newsom signing new gun control bills into law, the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) and its partners have filed a new lawsuit challenging the ban on the commercial sale of all Glock and Glock platform handguns in California.

Specifically, the lawsuit challenges AB 1127, which bans the sale of “…any semiautomatic pistol with a cruciform trigger bar that can be readily converted by hand or with common household tools…into a machinegun by the installation or attachment of a pistol converter as a replacement for the slide’s backplate without any additional engineering, machining, or modification of the pistol’s trigger mechanism.” The Glock ban takes effect on July 1, 2026.

SAF Backs Second Lawsuit Challenging Constitutionality of National Firearms Act

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) announced today the filing of a new SAF lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the National Firearms Act (NFA).

Since 1934, the NFA required anyone who wished to purchase a silencer, short-barreled rifle, short-barreled shotgun or “Any Other Weapon” (AOW) to pay a $200 tax and register the firearm with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Through the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill, however, the tax on these arms was eliminated but the registration requirement was left in place. The newly filed suit seeks to completely remove the affected arms from the NFA, eliminating the remaining registration requirements.

“With the tax now set to $0, the remaining registration requirements for these arms under the NFA have no constitutional basis,” said SAF Executive Director Adam Kraut. “Completely removing them from the NFA is now a must, and this suit aims to eradicate the barriers to the exercise of the Second Amendment. SAF is already a plaintiff in its own lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of these elements of the NFA, and now our sister organization the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is joining the fight as a plaintiff with our financial backing in this companion case.”

SAF Victorious in Post Office Carry Case

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas has ruled in favor of the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) and its partners in a case challenging the ban on possessing and carrying firearms in United States Post Offices.

In granting summary judgment in favor of SAF, the court granted both declaratory and injunctive relief, declaring the ban unconstitutional and preventing its enforcement for the plaintiffs, including SAF members. Originally filed in June 2024, the lawsuit challenges the ban on firearms carry in U.S. Post Offices and on postal property. SAF is joined in the case, FPC v. Bondi, by the Firearms Policy Coalition and two private citizens.

SAF Announces Chris Cox as 2025 Golden Bowtie Award Winner

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) honored its second recipient of the Golden Bowtie Award at this year’s Gun Rights Policy Conference in Salt Lake City. This year’s award was presented to gun rights advocate and influential legislative strategist Chris Cox. Recipients of the Golden Bowtie are people and/or organizations who have made significant contributions of time, talent and treasure to SAF and its mission.

In a press release announcing the award, SAF Executive Director Adam Kraut said, “It was a privilege to present this year’s award to Chris who has been a mentor and a friend throughout my career. When I started at SAF three years ago Chris became a tremendous resource and provided great counsel as I created my vision for the organization’s future. His resume is full of accomplishments, and there is no doubt he is certainly deserving of such a distinguished award.”

SAF Files Lawsuit to Protect Fourth Amendment Rights of High School Gun Owner

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) has filed a new lawsuit in New Hampshire challenging the unconstitutional search of an 18-year-old high school senior’s vehicle, based solely on the knowledge that he is a legal gun owner.

The case, Harrington v. Crawford, stems from the search of Hillsboro-Deering High School student Jack Harrington’s vehicle while it was parked on school grounds. Harrington lawfully owns a handgun and sometimes kept his firearm in his truck – in full compliance with all federal and state laws – but always removed the gun from his vehicle before going to school. When school authorities became aware of Harrington’s gun ownership, he was subjected to aggressive interrogation by district employees which culminated in his vehicle being searched without consent. The school had no reason to believe Harrington brought his firearm to school, and no firearm was found during the invasive and unconstitutional search.
