President's Message: What's Old Is New Again

kenyon-headshot-2021-square-500

Imagine if someone offered you the chance to add to your company efficiency and take away some of the cost of doing business. And imagine if there were a way to streamline the process of some of your day-to-day tasks, freeing you up to focus on other more important concerns.

Would you want to know what that is? Does it sound too good to be true?

Well, I’m happy to tell you it’s not too good to be true at all. In fact, NASGW has for the past couple of years been working toward the creation of something that can do just that. And this spring, through the newly created NASGW Solutions Corp., we’re launching a business tool designed to save time, money and create amazing efficiencies for manufacturers, distributors and retailers in the shooting sports industry.

One of the greatest challenges in our industry has been, and remains, finding accurate product information and data, including photography assets and product attributes. A casual search of the internet could lead you to multiple photos with multiple color backgrounds, sizes and descriptions for a product that’s actually supposed to be the same exact thing.

Changes to Expo Registration

As we prepare for the opening of the 2025 Expo registration, we want to inform everyone that we have a new registration system in place and there are some new procedures that will need to be followed to register.

Each individual from your company that plans to attend Expo must have an active profile linked to your company's membership account.  The Expo registration site is connected to these profiles, and only individuals with a profile under your company’s membership, with an email from your company domain, will be eligible to register.  You will not be able to add individuals directly through the Expo registration site, only via the membership site. Your company's designated key contact will need to log in and add all individuals that will need to register for the Expo. They should have received an email from NASGW with instructions on how to add individuals to the company account.

If you need assistance with this process, please contact us at staff@nasgw.org. Note that everyone must have a unique email address.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Gun Control Focus Shifts to State Capitals

Focusing on Congress, especially when lawmakers are talking about gun control, is to be expected. Washington, D.C., is the center of gravity when it comes to policymaking in the United States. Big debates, big legislation and big policy agendas are decided that have sweeping authority across the United States.

For some, it can be excruciatingly slow. That’s what the Framers intended. Congress was never meant to be quick on decision-making. Instead, the process of drafting laws, enacting legislation and setting policy was intended to be deliberative. The idea was that lawmakers should put thought into the lasting impacts their passionate rhetoric might invite.

Second Amendment Foundation March Updates

Victory in SAF-Funded Case Challenging Illinois FOID Mandate

A Circuit Court judge in Illinois has struck down the state’s requirement to have a Firearm Owner Identification (FOID) card to possess a firearm in the home for personal protection in a case supported by the Second Amendment Foundation and Illinois State Rifle Association. The case is known as State of Illinois v. Vivian Claudine Brown.

In his 15-page decision, White County Resident Circuit Judge T. Scott Webb observed, “The Defendant’s possession of a .22 caliber rifle within the confines of her home, even without a valid FOID card falls squarely within the protections afforded her by the Second Amendment.
